Summer Camps 2024

We are making a major change in the summer camp registration as outlined below:

  1. Camps will now be organized by an interested parent who chooses the week and the siblings and friends who will participate.( Organizing parent receives a 50% discount on her own child’s fee.)
  2. These are half day camps and can be held any week starting June 10 – August 30 (except July 1-5).  Each week is a separate camp session.
  3. Camps for 2nd-6th grades will consist of five half-days 9:00-12:00 noon, 5 children per group.  Cost is $210 per camper which includes all materials and safety glasses.
  4. Camps for 1st-3rd grades are two hour sessions mornings 10-12 or afternoons 1:00-3:00 p.m.  4 children in a group and the absolute minimum age   is children entering 1st grade in the fall. Cost is $180 per camper which includes all materials and safety glasses.
  5. Organizing parent does not collect fees.  Each participant will be responsible for their child’s fee.

This is an exciting and rewarding experience for motivated children. Emphasizing safe and easy techniques, small groups of beginning or experienced campers will use basic hand tools and clear sugar pine to construct projects of their choice from several building categories which include floating, rolling, and non-flying toys, desktop and other useful projects.   In addition to miter box sawing, 2-6th grade campers will learn how to use a coping saw to make curved projects (dogs, ducks, dinosaurs, etc.)  A portion of each day will include tool maintenance and some specialty techniques.

Please note that this is not not a “free-style-make-anything-you-want” camp. The kid-tested project ideas are there to jump-start the creative process and campers will progress at their own pace to build 7-10 projects during the week.

Returning and experienced students are encouraged to build more complex projects as their skills advance.   See the Project Photos page (off line at this writing) to look at examples of assorted miter box sawing projects and coping saw cutouts. Time and degree of difficulty is indicated by an asterisk * rating system.

SAFETY NOTES:

  1. SAFETY GLASSES/GOGGLES ARE PROVIDED and labeled for each camper (theirs to take home on Fridays)
  2. CAMPERS MUST WEAR CLOSED-TOE SHOES DAILY TO PARTICIPATE and bring a labeled water bottle daily.
