Summer Camp Description:

TheChildrensWoodshopBus summer camps for girls and boys grades 2 – 6 will be located at the Mission Bay Montessori Academy and once again will park in the shade of two magnificent Torrey Pine trees for 8 separate weeks of half day camps from June 24 – August 16. 2019.

This is an exciting and rewarding experience for motivated children. Emphasizing safe and easy techniques, small groups of beginning or experienced campers will use basic hand tools and sugar pine to construct their projects.

Please note that this is not not a “free style, make-anything-you-want” camp. Kid-tested project ideas are available to jump-start the creative process and campers will progress at their own pace to build 5-10 projects during the week.

Each camp is five half-days 9:00-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3:00 p.m. and is limited to 7 children per group.

Enroll at class/camp registration page

Categories of projects include: floating toys (yes, the boats will float); rolling toys  (yes, they will roll with built-in wobbles); flying toys (no, they don’t actually fly, but they will drop very fast if thrown); desktop and other useful projects.   In addition to miter box sawing, campers will learn how to use a coping saw to make curved projects (dogs, ducks, dinosaurs, etc.) A portion of each day will include tool maintenance and some specialty techniques.

Returning and experienced students are always encouraged to build more complex projects.  See the Project Photos page to look at examples of some very easy projects, some very complex projects and everything in between including coping saw cutouts.

SAFETY NOTES:

  1. SAFETY GLASSES/GOGGLES ARE PROVIDED AND TAKEN HOME ON FRIDAYS
  2. CAMPERS MUST WEAR CLOSED-TOE SHOES DAILY TO PARTICIPATE.
